Carrie Prejean: A Poor Christian Witness

I don’t know much about Carrie Prejean. I do recall that it was because of her Christian faith that she gave her statements about same-sex marriage. That was laudable. What’s not laudable though is who she is as a Christian.

What is a follower of Christ doing in a beauty pagaent, which flaunts the body, is demeaning to women and is sexist at best?

What is a follower of Christ doing posing for semi-nude photos?

What is a follower of Christ doing attracting so much attention to herself?

Carrie could have been a much better witness serving at a local church. I don’t know what she was thinking in pursuing this beauty title. And now, her story ends ignobly. God was definitely not glorified. Christians need to do a lot better than this if they’re going to convince the world that God is real.

In Defense of Traditional Marriage

Now what is it that proponents of gay marriage want? Carson Holloway said it best in his post. He writes, “What remains, then, as the basis for the argument for same-sex marriage—and what is in fact pressed most insistently by its advocates—is the claim that, without marriage, homosexuals are being denied the same recognition that heterosexual couples receive. Put bluntly, without marriage, homosexuals are made to feel that society does not value their unions as highly as heterosexual ones.”

He then writes about a good defense for traditional marriage and reasons for rejecting the validity of same-sex marriage.

20 Poor Reasons to lose your faith.

Just read this blog. The author sites 20 poor reasons to lose his faith in Christianity. The reasons he lists out are not evidences but just complaints or misunderstandings. If this blogger wants to lose his faith in Christianity, he should do it by disproving the resurrection of Jesus. Even Apostle Paul said that if the resurrection of Jesus Christ is false then our faith is futile.

Hypocritical Pro-Lifers

Here’s a story regarding the killing of an Abortionist. Though I’m against abortion, I do not think killing Abortionists is the answer. It grieves me that some pro-lifers–some who claim to be Christian–respond to abortion in this way.

My prayer goes to the family of Dr. George Tiller. No one–I mean no one–should have a loved one murdered.

Gay Gene?

Here’s good post from Greg Koukl’s Stand to Reason. Apparently the American Psychological Association reports that there is no consensus among scientist that a gay gene exists.

“There is no consensus among scientists about the exact reasons that an individual develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay, or lesbian orientation. Although much research has examined the possible genetic, hormonal, developmental, social, and cultural influences on sexual orientation, no findings have emerged that permit scientists to conclude that sexual orientation is determined by any particular factor or factors. Many think that nature and nurture both play complex roles; most people experience little or no sense of choice about their sexual orientation.”

California Supreme Court vote on Prop 8: Surprise, Surprise, Surprise

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise

The California Supreme Court gave their opinion regarding Proposition 8 (the California constitutional amendment to ban gay-marriage). Frankly, I’m surprised that the justices voted 6-1 to uphold the proposition. I feel that this is a temporary victory though: It’s just a matter of time before voters overturn the proposition in the next election. It is reassuring to know, however, that our justices voted according to the law and not some political agenda.

An Idiot in Action

Here’s an idiot in action (see blog) who argues that atheists are “more moral than religious fundamentalists.” What strikes me about this blogger is her position on de-conversion. She writes,

“Whether or not you believe in God, you should live your life with love, kindness, compassion, mercy and tolerance while trying to make the world a better place. If there is no God, you have lost nothing and will have made a positive impact on those around you. If there is a benevolent God reviewing your life, you will be judged on your actions and not just on your ability to blindly believe in creeds- when there is a significant lack of evidence on how to define God or if he/she even exists.”

Now my question is, “who died and made her God?” Her statement is utterly arrogant and presumes omniscience, and it begs the question, “why should we listen to you?”

Christian Response to President’s Obama Support for Abortion

Here’s a heavy message from Dr. John Piper with a powerful word art video. As Dr. Piper says, we really need to pray for nation’s leaders, trusting that God is sovereign and that He’s in control. The Apostle Paul says that we must submit to the governing authorities because God has established them (Romans 13:1). Is there a reason why God has allowed our government to be a government that supports abortion? I don’t know. God is god and he’s sovereign and I know that he can use anything to achieve his purposes. Maybe our nation’s leader’s will watch this and become more wary about the position that they espouse. What really scares me though is President Obama’s line of reasoning regarding the abortion issue: “the government shall not meddle with private family matters.” It’s scary that he can use powerful and good sound reasoning to persuade a country to legalize the killing of our most helpless citizens.
